Duchesne County moves forward on road work, approves three approach permits

Public Works Director Mike Casper told the Duchesne County Commission on May 18 that crews are paving in Pleasant Valley, graders are working, the crusher was expected back in service, and that chip-sealing and crack-sealing projects are underway.
Deputy Public Works Director Clint Curtis presented four approach permits associated with a new subdivision. The Commission approved permits A26-028, A26-029 and A26-030; permit A26-033 was postponed so staff could gather more information and guard against potential illegal approaches. Commissioner Jeff Chugg moved to approve the three permits and Commissioner Tracy Killian seconded; the vote was unanimous.
Commissioners also discussed several localized road issues: the poor condition of 2000 West (Uintah Canyon Highway) where jurisdiction was unclear and the need to coordinate with the Business Committee, and dust mitigation needs on 7000 West. Duchesne City Mayor Deborah Herron separately requested paving for County Road 195 to serve new residential development; the Commission discussed contacting the developer and an oil company about potential partnerships.
What happens next: Public Works staff will follow up on the postponed permit, coordinate jurisdictional questions about 2000 West with the Business Committee, and explore partnership options for County Road 195.
