Mayor’s Youth Council to host youth‑led mental‑health summit May 30

"We have all voted to change the focus to youth mental health, because we see that in our community, there's a growing need for mental health services," said Alexis Morgan, chair of the Mayor’s Youth Council and a senior at Gig Harbor High School. Alexis and fellow youth council member Kim said the summit will include speakers, interactive workshops and spaces for teams to gather.
Organizers said the event is scheduled for May 30, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Civic Center. They told the council they already have a budget set aside to run the event but invited businesses and organizations to sponsor or provide in‑kind donations to expand incentives and programming. A presenter said incentives such as food, candy or entertainment are being considered to increase teen attendance.
Council members asked clarifying questions about the cost to put on the summit and about incentives to attract attendees; presenters reiterated they will work within the existing budget and are open to partnerships. Council member Rodenberg asked specifically whether financial support was needed for the event; presenters said existing funds are available but sponsorships would help extend programming and activities.
The council did not take any formal action on the summit. Organizers asked interested partners to contact city staff (Shay) for sponsorship details.
