Gig Harbor Planning Commission welcomes three new commissioners

The Gig Harbor Planning Commission on Jan. 22 welcomed three newly appointed members and heard brief introductions of their backgrounds and reasons for joining.
Kim Anderson said she is a 20-plus-year Gig Harbor resident, a retired insurance executive, a founding member of the Gig Harbor Women's Co-op and active in local civic organizations. "It's a pleasure to be here," she said.
Katie Cornell, a one-year resident who earlier lived in Port Orchard, said she hopes to bring a "fresh perspective" after nearly four decades of work and as a recent local homeowner. Jim Henderson described himself as a small business owner with 25 years of housing-policy experience and said he brought professional expertise to the commission.
Commission Chair Mark Burkhart thanked outgoing members for their service and noted one seat remained vacant; Community Development Director Eric Baker said interviews had been held and the mayor would name a replacement ahead of the next meeting. Baker invited commissioners to a Jan. 19 meet-and-greet with staff and possibly council members.
The introductions were procedural and did not involve votes on policy; commissioners proceeded to staff presentations on the 2026 work plan.
