Isanti County Board awards $4.36 million pavement-preservation contract to Hawkinson Construction

The Isanti County Board of Commissioners on May 19 awarded Contract No. 2601 to Hawkinson Construction Company Inc. for pavement preservation in the amount of $4,362,930.10 and approved Contract No. 2602 for asphalt patching as needed.

The vote followed a motion by Commissioner Berg, seconded by Commissioner Westerberg, and carried unanimously. The contracts cover county pavement-preservation work described in the Highway Department bid packet.

Board members also approved Construction Change Order No. 3 for the CSAH 5 and East Dual Boulevard Intersection Improvements Project in the amount of $10,418.70 and authorized an amendment to construction-phase engineering services for $32,783.00. Per the joint powers agreement with the City of Isanti, project costs will be shared; the county’s two-thirds share of the noted increase was estimated at $28,801.13 at the meeting.

In the same section of the agenda, the board authorized the Highway Department to dispose of surplus equipment by auction, sealed bid, trade-in or other lawful means under Minn. Stat. § 373.01; listed items were estimated individually under $15,000 with total estimated proceeds of $20,000. The board also accepted a 2026 Federal Boating Patrol Supplemental Grant for $4,000 to support boat and water enforcement activities.

What happens next: County staff will execute the contracts with Hawkinson Construction and proceed with required pre-construction and engineering tasks. The contract award and change orders were recorded in motions 26/05-13 and 26/05-14 at the May 19 meeting.
