A board member reported that five requests for proposals produced two formal bids for the lighting project; Midstates Electric of Newcastle was the low bidder after negotiations and the speaker said the final price was reduced to $68,500. The plan calls for eight sponsor-funded poles with brass recognition tabs and possible additional bollard or bollard-like fixtures. The proposer said GIS mapping has been done to identify potential pole locations and that board members and staff will confirm placement before work begins.
Separately, members of the Friends group asked for permission to pursue an ADA-accessible pier or floating dock. The board approved exploratory, no-cost-to-the-park research into locations and designs and encouraged the group to return with a proposal; the board made clear that exploration carries no commitment of park funds.
Other capital items discussed included a floating pier option used at nearby Prairie Creek (vendor warranties and material wear were discussed), ongoing fundraising for a lake/dock project (an initial $5,000 grant from the Ball Foundation was reported), and outreach for larger grants and corporate partners (the expo group mentioned a pending CDBG-type grant application for $750,000 elsewhere in the meeting).
Next steps: the lighting proposer will finalize placement and sponsor recognition details, and the Friends group will pursue site assessment and return with a proposal for the board to consider; grant and sponsor outreach will continue.
