She said Scooter's (a local coffee shop) and other restaurants have discussed share events or donations and that organizers are working the scheduling. She also said a Walmart grant application for fireworks is pending while she waits for IRS paperwork to complete the grant submission.
On maintenance, Kate said grounds crew installed a small light inside the island lighthouse, stripped and waxed the Smith Building floors, repaired picnic benches and returned a washer/dryer, refrigerator and oven to working order in the park house. She reported the grounds crew discovered septic infrastructure with a collapsed PVC connector; both tanks were opened and are functional, but one remains nearer capacity and needs pumping "before it starts to thaw." She said she will map pipe locations and update the board as she identifies utility shutoffs and lines.
Kate also reported that the department successfully canceled its CivicRec contract and exported reservations and collections records so the park retains the information after losing direct access to the service. She noted she and grounds staff are reviewing playground inspection rules and will update the board to ensure compliance and safety.
The superintendent ended by asking for board help staffing upcoming fundraising nights and said she plans to attend a parks-and-rec management conference in Northern Indiana to gain training relevant to equipment and chainsaw safety.
Next steps: Kate will finalize maps of park utilities and pipelines, follow up on the Walmart grant once IRS documents arrive, and report back on playground inspection planning and volunteer coordination.
