Independence Township Committee approves minutes and bills; departments report on fall sports and road repairs

The Independence Township Committee approved the minutes from its July 8, 2025 regular meeting and the bill list on Aug. 12. Mrs. Gesumaria moved to approve the minutes and later moved to approve the bill list; both motions were seconded by Mr. Stuber and passed unanimously among the four members present. Mr. Pennington was absent.
Recreation Director Melissa Shurack reported that all fall sports programs are starting this season, the township will resume the wooden-bat league this fall, and the senior "Wings" calendar is full. Engineer Bryce Good said municipal-aid application work is ongoing. Joe King, CPWM, said crews are preparing the Field of Dreams for fall sports, roadside mowing is underway, approximately 10 tons of blacktop have been used this season for road repairs, and there have been two call-outs to remove downed trees.
Mayor Robert Giordano opened the public-comment period; no members of the public spoke. The committee adjourned at 7:12 p.m. on a motion by Mr. Stuber, seconded by Mrs. Gesumaria.
