Fife council reviews 2026 liaison assignments, clarifies alternate expectations

At a study session the Fife City Council reviewed the roster of 2026 external liaison appointments and filled several primary and alternate slots for regional boards, advisory groups and community partnerships.
Executive Assistant Smith walked the council through the liaison list and asked council members to confirm or change previous assignments. Topics included representation on the Greater Tacoma Regional Convention Center Public Facilities District, Pierce County regional bodies, the South Sound Housing Affordability Partners, the Fife Historical Society and school board representation. Council members volunteered for primaries and alternates, and staff said the finalized list will appear on the consent agenda for the next regular meeting.
Members also discussed expectations for alternates and communication timing. Several council members said they need more than a few minutes'notice before being asked to serve as an on-the-fly alternate; the group discussed a minimum 24-hour notice and some members suggested clearer protocol and staff briefings for alternates. Smith said she would add a 24-hour notice line to the liaison sheet and circulate the updated list to council members.
The consent agenda with the liaison appointments is scheduled for the upcoming council meeting; council members were invited to flag any language changes ahead of that vote.
