Wedge Park schematics shown; staff expects to advertise bid Jan. 20

FIFE, Wash. — Parks staff presented design schematics and a procurement timeline for Wedge Park at the Jan. 7 Parks Advisory Board meeting, describing play structures, new restroom facilities and a gazebo slated for the site.
Marta, the parks staff member presenting the plan, walked the board through the schematic: a 5–12 play structure (PE2), a 2–5 play structure (PE3), two double-disc swings, a spinner toy, two climbing boulders connected by a climbing net, and a 21-foot-diameter gazebo. The restroom building will include two single-occupancy unisex restrooms, a central storage room for parks crew supplies, a water bottle filler and art panels on the building’s rear.
Staff said the Wedge Park final bid packet was sent to Pierce County for a 10-day review and that staff expects to send the project out to bid on Jan. 20, with a mandatory pre-bid meeting for interested contractors on Feb. 4 and bids due around Feb. 18.
Board members asked about public art (a mural featuring a deer and mountain) and diaper-changing accommodations; staff confirmed a diaper-changing station is included. Staff also noted other nearby projects and funding steps related to a phase-two inclusive playground south of the existing splash pad.
The board did not take a formal action on Wedge Park at this meeting; staff said they would bring construction/bid updates to the next meeting.
