Fife proclaims February 2026 Black History Month; local café owner accepts honor

Mayor Kim Roscoe read a proclamation Jan. 27 declaring February 2026 Black History Month in the City of Fife and invited the honoree to the podium for a photo and remarks.
Vanessa Victorian, owner of Lizzy Lou’s Cafe, accepted the proclamation and described running a micro business for 12 years near a bridge that has been closed on the Tacoma side. "We're the furthest, I would say, the most southern business in the Fife area ... Out these 12 years, we've withstood COVID. We've withstood a couple of recessions," Victorian said, noting the cafe operates with two employees and partners with nearby businesses. Councilmembers thanked Victorian and discussed food truck programming and possible inclusion in the city’s summer events.
Deputy Mayor Murphy and other councilmembers praised local small business resilience and encouraged coordination with city staff and event scheduling.
The council paused briefly for a photo and resumed the regular agenda.
