Abbot Public Library reports staffing openings; town pay-and-classification study may affect budget

Director Kimberly Grad told the Abbot Public Library Board on Sept. 8 that the library is actively recruiting for a part-time custodian and that the Circulation Supervisor position is open after the previous incumbent accepted a Head of Access Services role at Frederick Berry Library, Salem State University. Three interviews have been scheduled for the custodian role and the circulation position will be posted internally first.
Grad said the Town of Marblehead is conducting a pay-and-classification study led by consultant MGT. Employees were invited to complete a Job Analysis Questionnaire; MGT is evaluating surveys and will conduct some staff interviews during the weeks of Sept. 22 and Sept. 29. The director told trustees a final report is expected by mid-to-late October and that findings may need to be considered during budget preparation for the town budget due Nov. 30.
Trustees discussed organizing for upcoming strategic planning and acknowledged that the town classification review could require adjustments in the library's budget. The minutes note the director will consider changes to staffing, signage and copy-machine pricing as part of operational planning.
