Fife lays out 2026 strategic plan with goals on protection, projects and housing

Assistant City Manager Jen Jirk presented the City of Fife's 2026 strategic plan at the Feb. 10 meeting, describing the plan's structure and a set of action items staff will pursue this year.
Jirk said the plan remains organized around five categories—protection, programs, process, projects and people—and noted that council-established goals and objectives from 2023 and the first strategic plan in 2024 continue to guide the work. She reviewed 2025 accomplishments including completion of the comprehensive plan, updates to the aquatic center and community center, a successful expansion of aquatic programming, and progress on projects such as the splash pad at Colburn Park and phase 1 of Sheffield Veil.
For 2026, Jirk outlined action items under each category: under protection, the city will pursue data-driven patrol strategies (noting coordination with the police department), expand communications and finalize maintenance standards for street trees and public spaces; programs include expanded community recreation offerings and monument signage; process items include launching an economic development action plan and improving asset-management systems; projects highlighted included ensuring the Fife Transit Station aligns with city priorities, finalizing the sewer system plan and completing the Wedge Park revitalization (currently out to bid); and people-focused items include analyzing an RFP for potential affordable housing at the Lehi Road property and continuing a jobs program tied to serving people experiencing homelessness.
Council asked for construction and timeline details for Wedge Park; Jirk said bids are due in roughly three weeks, there is a 14-week lead time for the prefabricated restroom, and once construction begins the park work would take about 90 days with a likely reopening this fall. The splash pad is tentatively planned to open around Memorial Day weekend, weather permitting.
Jirk encouraged council members to review the full plan in the council packet and offered to answer follow-up questions offline.
