Rothschild approves Kort Street IGA with Schofield and a $3,200 design contract

The Village of Rothschild voted unanimously on March 9 to enter an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Schofield for reconstruction of Kort Street from West Grand Avenue to the boat landing and to hire Becher Hoppe for related design services.
Administrator of Public Works Timothy Vergara told the board the City of Schofield will perform water and sanitary utility work for the joint project; Rothschild’s interest centers on four items to be incorporated into the plans: adding sidewalk from the St. Therese rectory west to the boat landing; upsizing the village’s watermain interconnect; creating a small kayak-loading and handicap-accessible parking area near Schofield’s sanitary lift station; and installing laterals for a future bathroom at the park boat landing.
Vergara said the project design is 60% complete and that funding for Rothschild’s share was illustrated using a $1.8 million street borrowing in the coming cycle, remaining funds from the prior cycle and MSID funds from the Weston Avenue project. He recommended the agreement as fair and equitable because Schofield initiated the project. Trustees approved the intergovernmental agreement 7–0 on a motion by Jason Jablonski with a second by Sam Stroik.
Separately, Vergara presented a Becher Hoppe proposal to incorporate the four Rothschild design items into the Kort Street plans for an estimated $3,200; the board approved the design contract 7–0 (motion Stroik/Jablonski).
Next steps include finalizing design details and coordinating utility work with Schofield and scheduling the borrowing and bidding steps tied to the village’s capital improvement plan.
