The Chickasha Municipal Authority on June 1 approved a proposal for supplemental engineering and construction-administration services related to geotechnical work for the Chickasha Water Treatment Plant project.
Rich (speaker 10) told the authority the supplemental scope is intended to review geotechnical findings and advise on foundation design, compaction testing and pier depths to protect the large investment. He said the construction contract already includes costs to perform geotechnical corrections, and characterized the extra $30,000 as an oversight measure: "one engineer checking the work of another," intended as a form of insurance against costly failures on a project the meeting referenced as an $84,000,000 investment.
CMA members debated whether the additional engineering duplicates contractor obligations and whether project engineers should present to the CMA for clarification; proponents said the expense is small insurance compared with potential replacement costs and asked staff to track change orders and cost increases going forward. The authority approved entering the supplemental-services proposal not to exceed $30,000 and authorized the chairman to execute the agreement.
What happens next: Staff will finalize the supplemental-services agreement, track related change orders against the project budget, and provide updates as geotechnical work proceeds.
