Mount Kisco Recreation Commission accepts minutes, discusses camp staffing and pool repairs

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. — The Mount Kisco Recreation Commission on April 13 adopted the March 9 minutes, reviewed finances and program numbers, and addressed operational items including pool repairs, field maintenance and camp staffing.
Joe Ziminsky moved to accept the March 9, 2016 minutes; Eileen Polese seconded the motion and the commission voted unanimously to approve them, the minutes show. Kathy Feeney, a commission member who signed the minutes, recorded the action.
The superintendent's report noted that Charlie Pieragostini was named "Citizen of the Year" and that a dinner would be held in his honor on May 11. Commission members asked to attend and agreed to move the regular May meeting; the commission voted to change the monthly meeting to Tuesday, May 10 so members could attend the event.
On facilities, the minutes report that pool caulking is ongoing and that tile work is needed; the pool cover was removed and the commission expected the pools to be filled by the beginning of May, though the exact date remained subject to weather. The commission also noted a turf blanket leased from Bedford to protect seeded field areas while grass germinates.
On camp operations, Joanne Aquilino presented a spreadsheet comparing camp salaries with neighboring towns and led discussion of season length (eight weeks versus six weeks) and staffing options. The commission discussed eliminating counselor-in-training (CIT) positions next year to simplify staffing and reduce costs. Village Manager Ed Brancati said he would be "ok" finding a few thousand dollars to help recruit an appropriate camp director so that Allison Eckhart would not need to serve as camp director while remaining involved in setup and operations.
Other items included a brief update that registration numbers were "about the same" as the prior year but increasing daily, a note that Little League opening day was scheduled for the coming weekend, and discussion of field-use application fees and weekday Minor League (MKLL) game supervision requirements. The minutes record that all weekday Minor League games must have supervision present.
The meeting closed after a motion to adjourn by Joe Ziminsky, seconded by Kim Terlizzi, with the vote recorded as unanimous. The minutes were signed and dated by Kathy Feeney. The commission's next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at 7:00 p.m., per the minutes.
