Stormwater board advances grants but requires disclosure of redacted collaborator names

The Monroe County Stormwater Management Board met May 27 to review funding requests under a memorandum of understanding with the Monroe County Soil and Water Conservation District.
Stormwater program manager Erica Pena described a drainage project that would direct hillside runoff through a culvert into a controlled channel to protect pastureland and cattle while avoiding direct flow into Bean Blossom Creek. SWCD representative Bridal Myers confirmed the project fit the joint small grants program’s guidelines.
Monroe County surveyor Tron Enright Randolph raised concerns about transparency after agenda materials contained redacted collaborator names; he urged that ratepayers be able to know where funding is going. In response, Erica Pena said many redactions stemmed from Natural Resources Conservation Service policies rather than landowners.
Commissioner Julie Thomas moved to approve additional funding on the condition that the client and landowner names be made public upon approval; Commissioner Jody Madera supported that requirement. The stormwater management board will meet again on June 24.
