Clinton County's newly active sheriff updated the Board of Commissioners on staffing and operations during the June 2 meeting, outlining short‑ and medium‑term personnel plans.
The sheriff (S7) said three deputies are currently at the academy and are due to graduate in August, and that crews are preparing EVOC driving practice. He announced that Bridal Osler began work June 1 and that he has appointed a new chief deputy, a 39‑year veteran of another sheriff's office, who will start June 15. Captain Matt Myers has submitted a retirement letter with a planned retirement date of June 22; another deputy has indicated an expected July 31 departure.
"It's been pretty busy and pretty hectic, understandably, but things are going well," the sheriff said, summarizing the first week on the job and saying he will soon publicize job openings for a records clerk downstairs to address officer safety and warrant handling.
The sheriff asked for permission to begin the hiring process (advertisement and application intake) for the clerk position; commissioners indicated no objection and asked to revisit vehicle requests at the next meeting, noting none were included in the current budget cycle. The sheriff also said he will consult with staff on a vehicle list and return with a formal request.
He added that once he has had time to review department needs he will propose efficiency and personnel changes; commissioners indicated support for his approach. The meeting record shows the board did not take a separate vote on these staffing requests at the June 2 session.
The board agreed to continue discussion at the June 16 meeting if additional personnel actions are proposed.
