Superintendent Dr. Cabral updated the Easton School Committee on facilities and wayfinding work intended to inform the district's capital planning.
Dr. Cabral said a professional facilities assessment will take place on-site between June 2 and June 10, with a report due in August that will provide data for a five-year capital projection. She said Director Copas and Mr. Copez are working on the project. "There is going to be a clear cut path for Dr. Pruett and the team to come up with the capital plan going forward," Dr. Cabral said, adding that the existing Doran Whittier report is outdated and the new assessment should identify systems nearing the end of their useful life.
Cabral described wayfinding and signage improvements to help visitors navigate the single campus, citing safety concerns such as vehicles driving through gates and using one-way roads incorrectly. She said the signage work and the assessment are meant to help the community use campus grounds after hours and make navigation more intuitive, noting the town's ability to fund resulting capital requests is not guaranteed but that the district will have professional data to present.
Incoming superintendent Dr. Pruett also briefed the committee on transition planning and staffing: she said the transition plan is in full swing, that Dr. Cabral has been helpful during the handover, and that the district is actively recruiting to fill open positions across buildings and central office. The approved district calendar was sent to families and staff and will be posted to the website.
