The Easton School Committee voted to give Superintendent Dr. Cabral a formative rating of "proficient," carrying forward the summative rating rather than requiring a midcycle formal presentation.
Chair (speaker 1) reviewed the two-year superintendent evaluation cycle and said DESE requires submission of a rating even when a superintendent is leaving. The chair told members she had consulted the MASC listserv and the district's MASC field representative, who advised that a formative assessment is discretionary in this situation. Committee members expressed reluctance to require Dr. Cabral to prepare a presentation in the final weeks of a transition.
Colleen Prowler (speaker 6) said, "I don't think it's necessary to have doctor Cabral do a formal presentation," adding that with Dr. Cabral leaving in a few months the priority should be transition continuity. Kelly Persio (speaker 2) and Jim Hamilton (speaker 3) agreed. The chair moved to give Dr. Cabral a rating of "proficient"; the motion was seconded and passed by roll call with all members voting yes.
The chair noted the district will submit the required DESE rating and that incoming superintendent Dr. Pruett will present a new set of goals in the fall, at which point the evaluation cycle will restart.
