Broomfield AHCC elects officers, prepares for SCFD grant-review season

The Arts, History and Cultural Council elected new officers and reviewed its role in the upcoming Scientific and Cultural Facilities District grant season at a regular meeting on April 6.
Mackenzie Carignan, elected chair, presided after Rose Gorrell, Manager of Arts and History, called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. The council approved the minutes and agenda on a motion by Joshua Vigliotti, seconded by Ajay Chankramath.
Ajay Chankramath nominated Mackenzie Carignan for chair, Joshua Vigliotti for vice chair and Celeste Pontarelli for secretary; all three were elected unanimously by a show-of-hands vote. The council’s membership recorded in the meeting included Mary Kate Karr-Petras, Todd Baker and Patricia Chin, along with the newly elected officers.
Dana Manyothane, SCFD Program Officer, gave an overview of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District, describing the district’s service area, organizational structure, its evolution since 1989 and what qualifies an organization as a Tier III entity. The presentation was intended to orient council members to the district-level criteria and community impact measures the AHCC will apply during grant review.
Following the SCFD overview, Rose Gorrell and Cheryl German led a training session on the AHCC grant-review process. The session covered the AHCC’s duties across a grant lifecycle, the 2026 AHCC/SCFD timeline, the scoring rubric and evaluation procedures, Broomfield’s funding philosophy, expectations for study sessions and key funding principles the council will use when scoring applications.
Council members were reminded of multiple virtual study sessions scheduled for April 13, April 20, April 27, May 4 and May 11; the agenda also lists a June 1 regular meeting that will include discussion of a Tier III grant allocation and an SCFD Guidelines review. No formal amendments or policy changes were adopted at the April 6 meeting.
Chair Carignan adjourned the meeting at 8:35 p.m.
