The Board of Public Works approved a contract to extend water service to the Parkside property, a project officials said is timed to avoid disturbing Main Street during its planned reconstruction next year.
Project presenter Max (speaker 8) told the board bids were opened May 22 and two bids were received. The apparent low bidder is BMCI Construction with a base bid of $66,095. Max requested a contingency to allow a total allocation not to exceed approximately $73,000 so the city can respond to unexpected conditions; he said the contingency percentage (about 10.5%) is higher than typical for small projects but appropriate given the low base amount.
Funding will come from park fees and previously budgeted engineering funds. City staff explained the work is being done ahead of the Main Street reconstruction so a recently reconstructed road will not need later disturbance to install the line.
Board members asked whether the waterline work coincides with other contracts; staff answered it does not and that the extension is a forward‑looking improvement to enable future park development. After questions and a motion, the board approved the award by voice vote.
Max: “We would use park fees as well as previously budgeted funds from engineering to fund this project... Therefore, we recommend that the contract be awarded to BMCI for the amount listed in their bids for $66,095 and also, contingency... for a total allocation not to exceed $73,000.”
Next steps: staff will finalize contract documentation and authorize the contract within the approved budget and contingency; construction scheduling will be coordinated to avoid Main Street reconstruction impacts.
