Buchanan County supervisors accept two resignations, approve equipment sale and fund transfer

The Buchanan County Board of Supervisors on May 26 accepted two resignations, authorized a transfer to the Emergency Services Fund, and approved the sale of surplus equipment used by Secondary Roads.
On motions by Supervisor John Kurtz, seconded by Supervisor Keith Wieland, the board accepted the resignations of Luke Passick from Secondary Roads and Benjamin Happel as Human Resource Director, both effective May 22, 2026. The motions carried with unanimous approval.
Auditor Kris Wilgenbusch presented a fund transfer to the Emergency Services Fund to cover wages, benefits and miscellaneous expenditures. She told the board the transfers were originally approved April 6, 2026 and that funds will be transferred only as needed. The board approved the transfer on a motion by Kurtz, seconded by Wieland.
County Engineer Alex Davis told the board the county plans to sell an emulsion tank trailer and a black trailer with an oil tank and had contacted Star Equipment about consigning the sale. The board approved the sale on a motion by Kurtz, seconded by Wieland.
Fred Smock of RASH Ride informed the board the RASH Ride will take place June 20, with bicyclists starting in Independence and following a route to Winthrop and Quasqueton before returning to Independence; no board action was taken on that announcement. The board heard public comment and adjourned at 9:33 a.m.
