Glenburn council approves fundraiser permit, grant and donations; tables contingency funding and adopts trial office hours

The Glenburn Town Council on July 18 approved a series of routine items and heard administrative updates from Town Manager Mr. McClung.

On motions that passed unanimously, the council: approved a liquor permit for the Polly's Push fundraiser (agenda item [24-02-01]); accepted an EMS Stabilization Grant for $49,757.69 to purchase a Life Pack (agenda item [24-02-02]); and accepted $300 in donations for the Recreation Department’s fireworks (agenda item [24-02-03]). Treasurer's Warrants #26+#27 and #01+#02 were approved as presented, and the minutes of the June 6, 2024 regular meeting were approved.

On agenda item [24-02-04], Mr. McClung asked that the end-of-fiscal-year 2024 contingency funding item be tabled until the next meeting; Councilor John Caruso moved and Councilor Maurice Day seconded a motion that was approved unanimously to table that item. The meeting record does not show the council taking any substantive action on contingency allocations at this session.

Town Manager's updates included a note that a recently purchased loader has been paid in full and that Public Works may next seek a skid steer as part of efforts to expand DPW capacity. Mr. McClung also proposed a trial change to municipal office hours, saying the town would be open "Tuesday-Thursday from 7:30-7 and Friday from 7:30-3"; the council agreed to try the new hours.

A member of the Maine Highlands League of Women Voters said the organization is studying how the council interacts with residents and will publish its findings; Councilor Chris Grotton encouraged community attendance at meetings and noted meetings are livestreamed, recorded and promoted via a mobile app and social media.

The meeting adjourned at 7:43 p.m. after a unanimous motion to adjourn by Councilor Maurice Day, seconded by Councilor John Caruso.
