Glenburn Council approves sale of old propane tank, $246,007 paving contract and routine business

The Glenburn Town Council on June 6 approved a slate of routine actions, including the sale of a decommissioned town propane tank, acceptance of two donations and an award of a $246,007 paving contract.
Daniel McClung, secretary to the council, told members the large, unused propane tank on town property is not serviceable and that resident Bruce Nason offered $100 to remove it. Councilor Chris Cookson moved to sell the tank to Nason for $100; Maurice Day seconded and the motion passed unanimously, 4-0.
The council accepted two donations reported by Tax Collector April Braley: $67.20 for the recreation department and $20.00 to the fire department in memory of Orrin Wilson. The council also accepted resignations from two Recreation Committee members, Christy McLaughlin and Bethany Robinson.
Public Works Director Shawn Braley outlined four paving projects: targeted shim work on Lancaster Brook, partial repairs on Phillips Road tied to storm damage, an overlay on Lakeview Road from Pushaw Road to Hudson Road, and a widening at Pushaw Road near Tocci’s store to reduce washouts. Maurice Day moved to accept the low bid from Wellman Paving for $246,007; Chris Cookson seconded and the motion passed 4-0.
Frank Roma moved, and Maurice Day seconded, approval of Treasurer’s Warrants #24 and #25; both passed 4-0. Roma also moved to accept the council minutes from May 9, 2024, which passed unanimously.
Under manager items, McClung reported the school received no bids to remove a portable building and that the Building Committee plans demolition and debris removal with an estimated quote of $30,000 and disposal coordinated through Casella. The council accepted a $3,133 bid from Commercial Bus and Vehicles (Michigan) for a town van inherited from the school; Cookson moved and Day seconded, and the motion carried 4-0.
Tax Collector April Braley asked the council to refund $104.24 in excise tax to a town resident later determined to be a 100% disabled veteran; Frank Roma moved to approve the refund, Maurice Day seconded, and the council voted 4-0 in favor.

The council adjourned at 8:13 p.m. The next town meeting is scheduled for the next Wednesday at 7 p.m., and the next regular council meeting is July 18.
