Hampton Planning Board votes to review ordinances related to data centers and other professional updates discussed

At the April 16 meeting the Hampton Township Planning Board voted unanimously to review and update township ordinances that could affect data-center development.
Board member Mr. Sivulich flagged data centers as large local resource users, urging the township to examine existing ordinances and protections before any such proposals proceed. Mr. Gurick supported including the issue in the Master Plan subcommittee’s work with Township contacts. Chair Gerard Ambrosi and Engineer Simmons noted related concerns raised by residents, including noise and utility demand.
Engineer Simmons also reported that work to close a road opening in front of the Urgent Care on Route 206 will be rescheduled because NJDOT has not yet approved the traffic-control plan. Simmons said township staff will pursue DOT contacts to expedite review. Simmons and staff discussed recent subcommittee conversations about Master Plan objectives and possible future ordinances such as a ban on Jake Brakes. The Fire Academy at the Public Safety Training Academy will host an open house on June 13 where residents can walk the property.
The Board’s motion to review and update ordinances related to data centers carried unanimously.
