Neighborhood Depot plans narrow as Catholic Charities withdraws; other grant and Land Bank work continues

At the June meeting the board heard an update on grants, Land Bank activity and the Neighborhood Depot project. A staff member identified in discussion as Britney reported progress on Community Development Block Grant microenterprise work and two Restore New York applications to rehab properties and to construct single-family homes through the Land Bank.
On the Neighborhood Depot — a planned multi-tenant facility with office space, showers and an emergency shelter kitchen — Britney said Catholic Charities has stepped out because of a transition and timing constraints, leaving United Way, Racker Center and a rural ministry as the primary organizations moving toward leases. "The Charities is out at this point," Britney said; she said staff were exploring other occupants or uses for the small office space previously reserved for Catholic Charities.
Board members noted significant Land Bank activity and a $200,000 fund for property owners tied to other downtown and DRI initiatives; staff also said a manufacturer program and other state funding opportunities are being explored. Board members encouraged coordination with county resources and continued outreach to funders.
