Council approves Sunrise Meadows plat, passes Tarragon annexation; Kazer Mezic annexation fails; VFW lease amended

The Uniontown City Council on May 11 approved a series of land-use and facility measures, including final plat approval for a 28-lot subdivision and a contested annexation vote.
City staff presented Resolution 18-75, the Sunrise Meadows final plat for a 28-lot subdivision. Staff reported that required infrastructure — streets, frontage improvements, sidewalks and utilities — has been installed and accepted by the city engineer and that performance and maintenance bonds have been posted. Council approved the resolution by voice vote.
The council considered two annexation resolutions. Resolution 18-76 (Kazer Mezic), covering roughly 20 acres on the city’s west side with an assessed valuation the staff described as about $5,000,000, failed to pass after discussion and a recorded negative outcome. Staff had recommended modifying the petition to include additional parcels to produce a more regular boundary; committee discussion noted limited staff resources and a split committee recommendation.
The council approved Resolution 18-77 (Tarragon annexation). Staff said the petition, received March 24, proposed vacating a small inholding and that staff recommended modifying the original three-parcel request to six parcels (approximately 18 acres, valuation roughly $4,000,000). Staff also noted the applicant’s offer to reimburse city review costs; a public commenter (Alex Campbell) urged approval on the basis that annexation would connect stubbed utilities and extend road networks. The motion passed with five votes in favor and one opposed.
The council also approved Resolution 18-78, a second amendment to the lease with VFW Post 1949 to provide temporary space for senior-center programming during renovations. Parks staff said the city will have exclusive occupancy June 1–Sept. 30 (except for two preexisting rentals), will compensate the VFW a total of $6,800 from the project budget, and will perform small ADA-related improvements; no additional project funds are required.
What happens next: the approved final plat and the Tarragon annexation will proceed through the usual recordation and boundary-review steps. The VFW lease amendment takes effect June 1 to accommodate the senior-center relocation during construction.
