Nash County approves donations, permits, retirements and opioid settlement spending plan

At the start of its May 4 meeting, the Nash County Board of Commissioners approved several routine and consent items including the donation of surplus TASER devices to local enforcement agencies, recognized multiple retiring employees, and approved two fireworks permits.
Chief Deputy Allen Wilson presented a resolution authorizing donation of listed surplus TASER devices; the board approved the donation. Fire and Rescue/Emergency Management Director Charles “Trip” Bunn presented two separate fireworks-permit requests: one for the Bailey Sweet Potato Festival on May 16, 2026 (Pyro Shows East Coast, Inc.) and one for a private gender-reveal event in Spring Hope on May 9, 2026 (Pyrostar Entertainment LLC); both permits were approved.
Interim Human Resources Director Tia Foula recognized employees retiring with service from three to 33 years. The board reappointed Brenda Stallings to the Nash County Tourism Development Authority.
Foula also presented the Option B report and a resolution directing the expenditure of opioid settlement funds; the Board approved Option B and adopted the resolution directing expenditures under that plan.
These consent and routine items were approved largely without extended debate and reflect ongoing county administrative, public-safety and community-event activities.
