Southampton tables liquidated-damages agreement while Pinelands issue remains unresolved

The Southampton Township Committee on Feb. 18 voted to table a resolution authorizing an agreement on liquidated damages until the March 18, 2025 meeting after officials said outstanding Pinelands approvals and scope questions remain.
Mayor Ronald Heston asked Township Attorney George Morris whether the agreement was being finalized now; Morris replied he expects the matter to be resolved before the next Committee meeting but noted the resolution includes a provision making the final agreement subject to attorney approval. Committeeman William Raftery moved to table the resolution until the March 18 meeting; Deputy Mayor Elizabeth Rossell seconded the motion and the Committee voted unanimously to table it.
Township Administrator Brandon Umba told the Committee he was concerned that fulfilling liquidated-damages obligations could require repaving the road and repairing the island, items that may affect cost and timing. The tabling will allow time to resolve outstanding Pinelands questions and to finalize the exact scope of work required under the agreement.
The Committee did not take further action on the item at the meeting; the resolution remains on the agenda for the March 18, 2025 meeting pending attorney review and any required Pinelands approvals.
