Izard County court reviews petition to name Pine Creek span '44 Bridge' and hears road and construction updates

During new business the Chair (S2) presented a petition from residents near the Pine Creek bridge asking that the new span be named "44 Bridge." A committee member (S3) said the Arkansas Highway Department’s chief engineer in Batesville indicated the department would welcome a county resolution and that the court should send a resolution and a letter requesting the naming.
The court discussed how the resolution should be worded and who would prepare it; the committee member offered to draft a resolution and provide the paperwork the highway department requires.
The Chair then reported on county construction and roadwork: a recently poured slab for an ongoing project, fencing and interior work beginning at another county facility, and that the Lafferty Bridge replacement had its old structure removed, footings due to be poured and walls to be constructed, with temporary bypasses prepared for local traffic. The Road Department graded approximately 125 miles of county road in July, hauled roughly 265 loads of clay gravel, cut right-of-way and installed three culverts, the Chair said.
The meeting closed with routine announcements: the county fair was about to open (the carnival vendor canceled), plans for a truck pull event, and a personal announcement from the Chair that he had a new baby daughter and would be intermittently available. A motion to adjourn was made and seconded.
