The NorthlakeTown Council unanimously approved a specific-use permit on June 13 to allow an existing church and preschool on a parcel near Chadwick Farms to expand its campus and add an elementary school program.
Staff explained the parcel was annexed from Fort Worth and defaulted to rural-residential zoning, which does not permit churches or day cares by right. The specific-use permit process permits the council to condition an expansion and attach a site plan showing a proposed new building and additional parking. Planning & Zoning held a public hearing on May 21 and recommended approval. Council opened a public hearing at tonight—s meeting; no members of the public spoke against the application. The applicant—s representative, civil engineer Darren Andrews (McAdams), told council the expanded facility would serve up to 200 students total and noted the applicant would return for any future expansions beyond the current proposals.
Council members noted the permitting change remedied an earlier annexation/zoning map omission and emphasized the site—s compatibility with surrounding uses. The council voted 7—2 to approve the specific-use permit.
What happens next: staff will finalize the ordinance and conditions in accordance with the approved site plan and the applicant may move forward with building permits and improvements consistent with the permit.
