Wrestling seeks new mats; baseball grooming machine request deemed ineligible

At the Jan. 8 meeting the commission heard capital requests from local sports organizations and a staff list of recommended facility repairs.
The wrestling program requested assistance to purchase new mats for the Wrestling Barn; the quote presented to the commission was $32,698.20. Broncos-related reporting noted the wrestling program has about 100 participants and is seeking additional practice space.
The Montville Baseball Softball Association requested assistance to purchase a field grooming machine at a quoted cost of $44,838.51. Staff advised that such capital equipment purchased by the township must only be used by township employees, so the commission recorded that the grooming machine request was not an acceptable capital request under current policy.
Staff also highlighted recommended facility needs including Youth Center repairs (broken windows, painting and broken furniture), Community Park pathway lighting and water fountains, playground drainage and entrance improvements (new sign/light pole, two new gates and upgraded locking mechanisms), and consideration of replacing the Community Park pavilion roof.
The commission approved the overall set of 2025 capital requests as submitted; individual eligibility for organization requests will be determined under budget and procurement rules and township capital policy.
