Township secures design support for pickleball courts and advances Metro Tract park plan

Montville Township staff told commissioners Jan. 8 that the township has secured design and construction support for proposed pickleball courts and is advancing site planning for the Metro Tract.
Recreation Director Lori Dent said Christopher Statille, P.A. has been secured to provide design and construction support for recreational improvements, including six pickleball courts at the Metro Tract site. The recreation department currently has $550,000 in capital funds allocated for the courts plus a $71,000 local recreation improvement grant set aside for that purpose; engineering has an additional $200,000 in capital for Metro Park improvements that will fund an entrance road, a walking trail and parking.
The township has hired consultant Matt MacDonald to handle permitting and design for the Metro Tract site improvements. Bid specifications under development will include construction of an access road into the Metro Tract, a walking trail and a parking lot to support future recreation facilities.
Township Committee Liaison Rich Cook reported that work has begun at the Metro Tract and that the Township Committee will be reviewing related budget requests. The commission also discussed site access, parking and timing for spring construction tasks.
Next steps: final design, permitting and bid specifications will be completed before procurement; funding and schedule remain subject to the Township Committee’s budget review and availability of materials and vendors.
