Montville Recreation Commission approves 2025 capital requests and fee schedules

The Montville Township Recreation Commission voted unanimously Jan. 8 to approve its 2025 capital requests and adopt updated park/facility and recreation program fee schedules.
The commission, led by Chairman Deane Driscoll, approved a ranked list of capital priorities that staff recommended for 2025. Top items include resurfacing and re-lining court surfaces across township parks (noted as required in early spring due to water leak damage); replacement wrestling mats; pickleball court construction and lighting; Camp Dawson turf fields; Community Park turf fields; field lighting improvements at all parks; and additional picnic tables and benches.
Commissioner Manfra moved to approve the 2025 capital requests as submitted; Commissioner Whiteman seconded and the motion passed with all in favor by voice vote. Commissioners also approved the 2025 Park/Facility Fee Schedule (motion by Commissioner Van Koppen, seconded by Commissioner Manfra) and the 2025 Recreation Program Fee Schedule (motion by Commissioner Manfra, seconded by Commissioner Whiteman), each by unanimous voice vote.
The meeting record notes staff provided comparative fee data from nearby municipalities — Oakland ($12), Roxbury ($20), Kinnelon ($15) and Roseland ($25) per participant for turf usage — information the commission will use in fee-setting decisions.
In other routine business, the commission approved the Dec. 11, 2024 minutes and a motion to approve December 2024 vouchers. The meeting adjourned at 7:49 p.m.
Next steps: the Township Committee will review related budget requests; the commission’s approved capital list will be incorporated into the township budget and project planning process.
