The Great Barrington Design Advisory Committee on Wednesday approved two sign permits and declined to recommend a third after the applicant failed to attend the meeting, the committee’s minutes show.
Chair Jackie Kain presided over the May 27 meeting at Town Hall, where the committee reorganized its leadership, naming Kain chair and Jennifer Clark vice chair. The body approved the minutes from its April 14, 2026 meeting by a 4-0 vote.
During the permits portion of the agenda the committee took up three items. The application for a wall-mounted and projecting sign at 31–35 Railroad Street was approved by a 4-0 vote. A wall-mounted sign at 198 Main Street was also approved 4-0. The application for a wall-mounted and projecting sign at 47 Railroad Street received no vote recommendation after the applicant did not appear and committee members said there was not enough information to recommend approval.
Committee members discussed a recurring concern about applicants failing to attend hearings and raised the possibility of asking the town building inspector to require applicants to appear for reviews in the future; the minutes record this as a procedural request rather than a formal motion.
No members of the public spoke during citizen speak time. The committee adjourned at 12:01 p.m.
