At the Fernandina Beach Golf Course Advisory Board meeting Aug. 22, resident John Spitola urged the board to introduce a winter promotional card to draw snowbirds and return players who had poor experiences earlier.
Spitola, who identified himself as a nearby resident and a course maintenance employee, told the board: "we ought to offer a card that offers 12 rounds of golf for the January to March at a price tag of about $700 with a $100 credit for those people to eat for food and beverage." He said advertising in local outlets had attracted him to the course years earlier.
General Manager Jeffrey Biggers reported July operational figures showing 3,343 rounds of golf for the month, with 2,098 18‑hole rounds and 1,245 9‑hole rounds. He also outlined revenue lines including cart fees and pro‑shop sales and said staff are tracking improved trends despite closures after Tropical Storm Debbie.
Biggers said the course secured a Top Tracer range sponsorship from First Federal for $3,000 covering Oct. 1 through the end of the fiscal year in 2026. Staff and board members discussed member pricing, dynamic rates, and outreach; Scott Michaelson, director of parks and recreation, and other board members volunteered to help shape promotional materials and membership math to show prospective players whether a membership or punch card makes financial sense.
No formal action was taken; staff agreed to follow up with promotional proposals and to include membership options in upcoming communications to the membership list.
