Willistown Parks & Recreation Board approves minutes, outlines 2026 events and park rules

The Willistown Township Parks & Recreation Board met Feb. 17 and approved the minutes from its Jan. 20 meeting before turning to program and park-management items for 2026.
Board members discussed expanding the township’s community events calendar, including a potential Movie Night in August or late September. Board members and staff confirmed planned offerings for 2026: the School’s Out kickoff to Go WilMa!, two Greentree ‘‘Tree in Tune on Tap’’ events, the Country Fair, a Declaration of Independence event coordinated with the Museum of the American Revolution and the Paoli Library, and Revolutionary Youth with Historic Sugartown. Township staff (Jennifer Jacobs) said she is also working on a guided bird hike, a Serpentine Barrens tour in partnership with Natural Lands, and a fall Owl Prowl.
On park management, board materials included a memo from John Holback, the township’s Parks and Preserve Steward, stating he has drafted a request for proposals (RFP) for master planning the Monument Road parcel and hopes to present it to the Board of Supervisors in March. Holback’s memo also reported habitat work completed over the winter: installations of 20 bluebird boxes, two kestrel boxes, four wood duck boxes and two additional hawk/owl boxes where habitat permits.
The board revisited dog rules at Greentree Park, noting that dogs are not allowed in the play area and that the board has observed some owners failing to pick up after pets. Members proposed additional signage and a Crier article explaining rules and etiquette; Jennifer Jacobs said she will prepare the Crier piece and update memo boards with the 2026 calendar. Michael Boldin also recommended installing ‘‘No Bikes’’ signs at Okehocking Preserve after a recent incident in which a mountain biker was bitten by a dog, and suggested aerating and seeding the off-leash dog area in spring or fall. Jacobs said she would pass maintenance suggestions to Bill Hagan in Public Works.
Regarding access and parking, Jacobs reviewed a Sign, Parking and Access Easement Agreement with 40 Lloyd, LLC; the minutes record that the property owner is responsible for paving the parking easement area and that Township Manager Ms. Lodge will approach 40 Lloyd, LLC about completing the pavement. Jacobs also said she will order patriotic bunting for the Greentree pavilion and have Public Works install it ahead of scheduled events.
On administration, the board voted to cancel its March meeting because of limited business and travel schedules and asked staff to invite Lisa Dreyer to the April meeting for an interview to fill a Parks & Recreation Board vacancy. No public comments were recorded. The meeting adjourned later in the evening; the minutes note a transcription anomaly for the adjournment time and record that the meeting ended shortly after 7 p.m. The board’s next meeting is scheduled for April 21, 2026 at the Township Building.
