Committee reviews Barnstable County Cooperative Extension sign proposal for Crow's Pasture

The Constable presented two prototype signs produced by the Barnstable County Cooperative Extension and asked the Town of Dennis Shellfish Committee for feedback on siting and design. "The Barnstable County Cooperative Extension is either providing or finding funding for the fabrication and installation of this project," the Constable said, noting the project would not require town funding if the Extension carries fabrication costs.
The Constable suggested Crow's Pasture as a likely installation site because of visitor traffic and asked the committee where on the access the sign would be most effective. Committee members raised clarity about dog access and ORV (off‑road vehicle) areas: one committee member noted that dogs are not allowed in aquaculture areas, and the Constable agreed that the sign text should make the boundaries and rules clearer. The Constable said there are two design versions — one with real‑life photos and one without — and that the version with photos was preferred by the presenting group.
Committee members discussed placement for visibility (near the access point or closer to parking/inspection areas) and whether more than one sign could be requested; the Constable said each town originally requested one sign but she would inquire whether additional signs could be made available. The Constable also noted that the Division of Marine Fisheries is seeking photos and promotion opportunities for commercial shellfishing areas and that increased signage could dovetail with regional promotion efforts.
No formal vote was taken; the Constable asked for general reaction and said she would follow up with the Cooperative Extension on final design and any possibility of obtaining additional signs for the town.
