Morton County Commission approves routine business, awards gravel bid and pays Youngtown Bridge easements

The Morton County Commission on May 26 approved routine meeting business and several procurement and payment items.
Chair Nathan Boehm called the regular meeting to order at 5:30 PM at the Morton County Courthouse in Mandan. Commissioners Buckley, Tokach and Morrell attended in person; Commissioner Zachmeier participated virtually. Auditor Dawn R. Rhone, States Attorney Koppy and Sheriff Kirchmeier were noted as present.
Commissioner Morrell moved, and Commissioner Tokach seconded, to approve the meeting agenda with additions; the motion carried with all voting aye. Commissioner Buckley moved, and Commissioner Tokach seconded, to approve the minutes of the May 14, 2026 regular meeting; all voting aye, motion carried. Chair Boehm moved, and Commissioner Buckley seconded, to approve bills and payroll; that motion also carried with all voting aye.
The commission approved out-of-state travel for Assistant States Attorney Lingle to attend the Advanced Digital Evidence for Prosecutors Court at the National Crime Fighting Institute in Alabama June 26-29, 2026 after a motion from Commissioner Morrell and second from Commissioner Tokach; all voting aye.
On procurement, Commissioner Tokach moved and Commissioner Buckley seconded approval of the Knife River bid to supply and deliver gravel at $35.18 per ton for infrastructure improvements on County Road 83; the motion carried with all voting aye.
The commission also approved payment of $1,800 for temporary construction easements and permanent right of way associated with the Youngtown Bridge (30-133-03.0) after a motion from Commissioner Tokach and a second from Commissioner Morrell; all voting aye.
Public comment was opened at 5:56 PM pursuant to North Dakota Century Code 44-04-20.1; no members of the public spoke and the period was closed at 5:56 PM. Auditor Rhone reported the total of county funds expended from May 15 through May 26, 2026 as $955,537.69 and advised a detailed list of expenditures is available for public inspection at the County Auditor's Office during regular business hours.
Chair Nathan Boehm adjourned the meeting at 5:56 PM.
