Glassport Borough Council on June 18 voted unanimously to award contracts for the borough police station renovation and to begin seeking funding for the project.
Council President Anthony Colecchi read a buildings report in Councilwoman Amy Nabors’s absence and the council approved the lowest responsible bidders for the work: Graham Construction ($618,669) for general construction; Vrabel Plumbing ($327,200) for plumbing; Hranec Sheet Metal ($119,870) for HVAC; and Uzmack Electric ($106,655) for electrical. The combined award total is $1,172,394. The motion to award the bids was made by Mark Stecak and seconded by Angelo Norelli and passed, 5-0.
Why it matters: councilors paired the awards with immediate steps to secure financing. Council later voted to advertise a request for proposals for funding of the renovations and authorized the borough solicitor to take any action necessary to secure funds, including preparing resolutions or advertising ordinances. Both motions passed 5-0.
What council recorded: the meeting minutes show both the awards and the funding-authority motions as formal council actions carried by unanimous votes. The council also noted that resident Rosemary Bradley had asked earlier in the meeting where the money would come from for the renovations; the RFP and solicitor authorization are the council’s recorded response to that concern.
Next steps: the borough will advertise the RFP and the solicitor will proceed with any filings or resolutions needed to obtain funding; council members said they will report on progress at a future meeting.
