Saranac Lake trustees approve sewer code change, volunteer fire contract and a slate of bids and appointments

The Saranac Lake Village Board on May 11 approved a package of routine municipal actions, including a change to the village sewer code, renewal of the volunteer fire contract and acceptance of multiple low bids for public-works work.
The board unanimously adopted an amendment to Village Code §221-25 clarifying that stormwater and other unpolluted drainage must be discharged to designated sewers or an approved natural outlet and that discharging unpolluted drainage onto village-owned streets or sidewalks without Village Manager approval is unlawful. Trustee Evans moved the measure and Trustee Ryan seconded; all trustees voted yes.
Trustees also voted unanimously to approve the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Company contract. The contract specifies a $92,200 annual payment to the fire company, to be paid in two equal installments, and sets expectations for insurance coverage, maintenance and reporting. Trustee Trudeau moved the contract and Trustee Ryan seconded; the roll-call vote was recorded as unanimous.
The board accepted low bids and authorized contract awards for several public-works projects: asphalt milling to Central Paving, Inc. for $27,288; paving to Central Paving, Inc. for $43,500; and concrete curb and sidewalk work to Luck Bros., Inc. for $67,710. Each bid award passed on roll call.
Other administrative actions approved included appointing two residents to the Development Board, establishing a Housing Advisory Board, reorganizing advisory boards and committees with trustee liaison assignments, and authorizing routine transfers from contingency and inter-fund adjustments.
The board also placed on the record motion approvals for overnight travel for mechanics to attend training and authorized SDA (Suozzo, Doty & Associates) to apply for a cybersecurity grant for the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The meeting adjourned after the board entered and exited executive session on litigation matters.
