Needles council appoints Alicia Hernandez to planning commission, fills housing commission seat

Alicia Hernandez, introduced from the council’s packet and described by staff as a Teamsters Local 1932 member with prior community and nonprofit engagement, addressed the council and described her experience working with city employees and community organizations. Following a motion and second, the council voted by roll call to appoint Hernandez to a planning-commission seat with a term through 12/31/2029. Staff advised that Hernandez would need to recuse herself from any quasi-judicial or matter where a Teamsters conflict existed.
The council also appointed the single applicant to the Housing Commission to fill the available seat; that appointment was approved by roll call. Staff said that letters from two other applicants had been received and noted one applicant had a scheduling conflict and could not attend in person.
Council members congratulated the new appointees and the city said it will follow up with orientation and scheduling.
