Seward County appoints two members to Veterans Service Committee

The Seward County Board of Commissioners appointed two members to the Veterans Service Committee during its June 2 meeting. The board selected Peggy Brown to a five-year term expiring in 2031 and Kyle Hinkle to fill an unexpired term through 2027. The motion to appoint Brown and Hinkle was moved by Darrell Zabrocki, seconded by Ken Schmieding, and carried by an affirmative vote of Zabrocki, Schmieding, Raegan Hain and Chairperson Misty Ahmic (4-0).
Ray Foreman, the county Veterans Services Officer, and Dave Pankoke, representing the Veterans Service Committee, presented the slate of candidates submitted by local Veterans of Foreign Wars posts and discussed the two vacancies (one full five-year term and one remaining one-year term). Board members also noted the committee currently lacks formal bylaws and discussed the need to draft governing bylaws for the committee going forward.
The appointments fill immediate vacancies on the Veterans Service Committee; the board did not set separate dates at the meeting for adopting bylaws, directing staff to take up that administrative task as needed.
