Public Health Manager Teresa Ortiz presented the 2025 South Shore Community Health Assessment to the Cudahy Board of Health on Feb. 11, 2026. Ortiz described the assessment’s framework and methodology and identified the top five health conditions and behaviors to be addressed in Cudahy: substance use; mental health; nutrition and physical activity; bullying; and chronic disease.
Ortiz also listed the community’s top five strengths—neighborhood safety, recreational opportunities, healthy built environments, education (access and quality), and environmental health—and the top social and economic issues to address: access to mental-health services; access to healthy foods; access to housing; community violence and crime; and economic stability.
Board members expressed appreciation for having localized data, encouraged collaboration to expand mental-health resources, and noted a need for affordable housing. The minutes do not record a formal vote on actions tied to the assessment.
