Sheboygan County advisory committee recommends $62,489.13 in stewardship grants to local recreation projects

Aaron Brault, chair of the Sheboygan County Recreation Facilities Management Advisory Committee, called the June 1 meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. and reported the meeting notice had been posted May 29, 2026. Brault said the committee was in compliance with the Wisconsin Open Meeting Law and then reviewed staff recommendations for 2026 stewardship funding.
The committee was told $62,489.13 is available to distribute this year. Phil Mersberger moved and Supervisor Jon Kuhlow seconded approval of the April 27, 2026 meeting minutes; that motion passed unanimously.
During consideration of the 2026 stewardship applications, Brault provided an overview of proposed projects and staff funding recommendations. Lil Pipping moved to approve the applications as presented by staff; Josh McDole seconded. The motion was approved.
The committee recommended the following funding levels be presented to the Planning, Resources, Ag & Extension Committee: Sheboygan Falls Football Club — $20,000; Sheboygan County Cycling — $8,528; ROOTS — $12,000; Glacial Lakes Conservancy — $4,298; Cheese Capital Winter Park — $17,500. For the Maywood application, the committee recommended “utilizing a different funding source,” indicating they do not recommend county stewardship funds for that project.
No vote tallies were recorded in the meeting minutes for the stewardship allocations beyond the motion being approved. The recommendations will be forwarded to the Planning, Resources, Ag & Extension Committee of the County Board for final consideration.
The meeting adjourned at 6:05 p.m. after a motion by Pipping and second by Dale Katsma.
