Eric Schumer described the incident: while performing routine kennel duties, an employee was attacked and mauled by a large dog; Stephanie Landers ran to the scene, removed the dog from the victim, administered first aid, called 911 and accompanied the victim to the hospital at the victim’s request. "By intervening exactly when she did, Stephanie not only saved the life of her coworker, but also placed herself at extraordinary risk," Schumer said.
The survivor (identified in the presentation as "Deb") and family were present for the recognition. Council invited Landers forward, presented the award and thanked shelter staff for their work.
