Resident urges council to protect Cross Timbers conservation values as LISD evaluates 19-acre surplus tract
Summary
Resident Jason Shao told the council that an LISD-identified 19-acre surplus parcel at Quail Run and Flower Mound Road should remain governed by the town's Cross Timbers Conservation Development principles as ownership changes, and asked the council to state community expectations on traffic, trees and school-zone safety.

Jason Shao, a resident whose property borders a 19-acre Lewisville Independent School District surplus tract at Quail Run and Flower Mound Road, urged the council to make clear that conservation and low-density planning principles should guide any new owner.
—We come with one primary message: ownership may change, the values and planning principles that govern this land should not,— Shao said, asking the council to reaffirm the town's Cross Timbers Conservation Development (CDC DD) standards and master-plan protections before the property changes hands.
Shao said the parcel sits inside the Cross Timbers conservation district and recalled the council's 2022 action to strengthen CDC DD standards. He asked the town to expect future development to respect the master plan, protect mature trees and neighborhood character, and consider traffic and school-zone safety for nearby Founders Academy and adjacent neighborhoods.
Council members responded by noting that the master-plan designation is Cross Timbers Conservation and that the property is currently zoned agricultural; any rezoning would be discretionary and subject to CDC protections. The council did not take formal action on the request during the meeting.
Why it matters: the 19-acre tract is being evaluated by LISD as surplus land. Residents who live adjacent to the parcel told council they expect the community's long-standing planning values to be preserved as bids are considered.
What comes next: no zoning or development decision occurred at this meeting. Residents and the council will watch LISD's process and any formal rezoning or development application that would trigger public hearings and discretionary review.
