County staff brief committee on state-required comprehensive EMS plan and pending communications grants

Public Safety Director Glen Gosnell told the Washington County Public Safety Committee on May 26 that the state has updated EMS laws and regulations and is requiring counties to adopt a comprehensive county EMS plan. Gosnell said the law takes effect June 19 and that staff will work with stakeholders and Board representatives in working groups to develop and present the plan to the Board.
Gosnell said much of the county’s existing EMS structure aligns with the new requirement but that additional guidance from the state is expected once the law takes effect. He noted the state is sending surveys and that counties will receive copies of the responses; staff will not administer those surveys directly.
Gosnell also notified the committee of two pending awards: a PSAP Operations Grant for $281,552 and a Communications Grant for $1.27 million. He said once award letters arrive the county will recognize the funds in its budget.
No formal committee motions on the EMS plan or the two grants were recorded at the meeting; the Board will have final approval of the EMS plan when it is complete.
