Committee moves $52,092 Discovery Reform grant allocation; DA reports traffic-ticket program enrollment

The Washington County Public Safety Committee on May 26 moved to send a budget amendment to Finance to allocate $52,092 from the state Discovery Reform grant for Discovery-compliance and related programs.
District Attorney Tony Jordan told the committee the county’s Discovery grant was nearly $216,000 this year and requested distribution of $52,092 to pay for Axon equipment ($15,892), an alternative-sentencing program ($10,000), added sheriff costs ($25,000) and $1,200 for the Traffic Ticket Program. Mr. Hahn moved the budget amendment and Mr. Baker seconded; the motion was adopted and forwarded to the Finance Committee.
Jordan also updated the committee on the Traffic Ticket Program, which was on its 50th day: 179 people have been approved to participate, 97 have paid the Advent course fee that funds the online class, and 82 have paid the $100 program fee that is distributed to towns. Jordan said the program reduces time spent on lower-priority matters and decreases assigned-counsel costs by reducing use of 18B attorneys.
The committee record does not list line-item budget codes for the amendment; Finance Committee action will determine final allocations.
