Henniker Select Board appoints Steve Dennis to fill Select Board vacancy

The Henniker Select Board on Nov. 4 appointed Steven (Steve) Dennis to fill the select‑board vacancy created by the death of Peter Flynn.
Six candidates briefly introduced themselves and answered questions about town priorities and workload. Candidates highlighted priorities that included roads and infrastructure, fiscal restraint, support for community events and balancing services with the tax base.
Board members said the pool of applicants was unusually strong and discussed several options to narrow the field. Using a ranked‑choice approach, Steve Dennis received the most support from members and the board moved to appoint him to finish Flynn’s term; the motion passed by voice vote.
Dennis, a long‑time Henniker resident who said he served 19 years as a town police officer and currently works with the state fire marshal’s office, told the board he was stepping forward to "give back to the town that I grew up in." The chair asked Dennis to visit the town clerk to be sworn in before the next meeting.
The board also acknowledged the quality of the other candidates and encouraged interested applicants to consider running for the full term at the upcoming town election.
